My company, CadFaster, Inc., is a Finnish software company producing 3D viewing and collaboration tools. CadFaster’s technology development was started way back in 2002 and we claim to have one of the fastest viewer solutions for 3D professionals. Our current product is called CadFaster|QuickStep and it enables fast viewing of CAD design files. Users can also easily distribute their designs as portable exe files. We utilise technologies like ‘multi-resolution modelling’ and ‘occlusion culling’ in CadFaster|QuickStep. And did I mention it’s free? (We do charge for the Professional version, though.). How about the people then? I was utterly impressed with our technical team. Deep technological understanding and enthusiasm shines from their faces. CadFaster has been very technology-oriented and that benefits us today. Our small size enables fast development cycles. I am totally excited to join this team.
Did they hire me to sell CadFaster|QuickStep? You may have already guessed not. We are planning to release a completely new collaboration tool to benefit all stakeholders in the design process. We will have to charge a small fee for our new invention but we believe it is very small compared to the time and cost savings achieved in the design process. While in Oulu, one of the largest traditional sailing ships, STS Sedov, came to town. At 117.5 m (385.5 ft) it was quite a sight. During the 2-day visit 12,000 people visited the ship and more than 100 boats went out to welcome her. In a northern town (65°01′N 025°28′E) of 140,000 inhabitants this is quite a few. Here is a photo of the ship and its route taken with my mobile phone. They didn’t mark Oulu on the route map but I can assure you the ship was there. I also know that I need a better camera and better skills. In fact I should outsource all my photographing to my wife. Unfortunately she was not there.
It was midsummer festival in Finland this weekend. It is a time when sun doesn’t go down and people hardly sleep. I hereby conclude with the words of Beastie Boys: “(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (To Party!)”.
I almost forgot. What’s in a name? That which we call ViewFaster. The name of my blog hints of our forthcoming product. I hope it’s called that or I need a new blog page…
